The Roma minority from the towns of Plovdiv and Rakovski in Bulgaria<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason for our research in the city of Plovdiv, located in the Region of Trakia was to learn about the situation of the local Roma minority. For a better understanding of the cultural context, we met representatives of different communities and ethnic groups. We also left Plovdiv and went to the town of Rakovski, where most of the inhabitants are Catholic Christians while the majority group in Bulgaria are Orthodox Christians. The pictures of the Roma communities in Plovdiv and Rakovski are from the cultural and social aspect very different. You can learn more about it in our broadcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En cons\u00e9quence, ils interrompent et ne poursuivent pas leur \u00e9ducation scolaire et se retrouvent au ch\u00f4mage, “c’est aussi le principal probl\u00e8me parmi les jeunes roms”, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Assen, qui est un gar\u00e7on rom. Assen travaille comme coiffeur et ses amis Vasco (Vasco \u00e9tudient dans des \u00e9coles pour la construction m\u00e9tallique). Aussi pour Assen, l’enseignement secondaire est tr\u00e8s important, il est lui-m\u00eame un \u00e9tudiant \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole secondaire “Najden Gerov” \u00e0 Plovdiv, o\u00f9 la majorit\u00e9 des jeunes sont d’origine rom.
Notre groupe de 12 jeunes et 4 enseignants de France, Never et Berlin, en Allemagne, a rencontr\u00e9 des \u00e9tudiants de l’\u00e9cole “Najden Gerov” ainsi que des \u00e9tudiants de l’\u00e9cole secondaire professionnelle pour la construction m\u00e9tallique. Qui \u00e9taient ces jeunes gens : Ils chantaient et dansaient avec nous et ils \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s heureux de rencontrer des jeunes d’autres pays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hari was one of those students, he lives in Stolipinovo as most of his schoolmates. Hari sings, dances, plays football and writes rap songs. A very optimistic and energetic person. He identifies himself as Turkish, Moslem and speaks Bulgarian and Turkish. Most of the Roma people from Plovdiv say, that they are Turkish, not Roma. Yet, their Turkish language skills seem not to be very developed, but all of them speak fluent Bulgarian. The Bulgarian language teacher shares this experience: The Roma students have big problems with the grammar and vocabulary and it is challenging to overcome these knowledge gaps.
On the other hand, the principal of Technical College for Metall Construction explained, that at his school Roma students learn a profession in the field of auto mechanics and that they are very successful. By means of the European projects they have also the chance to acquire a second profession, which improves their chances to find a job.
25 years ago, the school had not accepted the Roma young people, but in the last decades more and more could attend the classes. Today, the most students are Roma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
