„Students from Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, China and Japan live here like a big family“ Maciej Bartoszyk told me. He lives in Lublin and studies here media and journalism at the WSPA University. It was a cold snowy day, as I arrived in Lublin to hold lectures and seminars about radio production at the WSPA University.
A city and university with diverse cultural influences
My hotel is situated in Dom na Podwalu, placed closely to an old monastery school adjacent to the historical Castel. The Castel with a tower erected in the Middle Ages dominates the city landscape from the top of the Castel Hill. The atmosphere is majestic and the architecture monumental. Behind my hotel the Stare Miasto (eng. the Old Town) is located where one can find the birthhouse of the famous violinist Henryk Wieniawski, the Krakower Gate and many other historical buildings.
In the new part of Lublin, surrounded by modern buildings the WSPA University of Journalism and Social Communication studies is situated. In the main hall I found students sitting together and chatting in Russian about last lectures. My colleague, Marianna Kril, who is a teacher of radio journalism and runs a Polish-Ukrainian program at Radio Lublin invited me to hold a lecture during her class. As I entered the building, she approached me hurrying and introduced herself briefly. „I am originally from Ukraine, like almost 90% of our students who study journalism and media“ Marianna explained. There are also some departments specialized in IT and technical science. The first meeting with the Ukrainian-Polish students was outstanding, we communicated mostly in English, yet some of the participants spoke also Russian and German.What did we plan to do during my visit?
Our objective was to produce a radio feature about the WSPA University. What was of greatest importance for our project?
People and their stories told in an authentic and emotional way. Yet, it is a challenge to find people eager to talk about their life and passion in a fascinating way. Let’s listen to them now!

Miasto i uniwersytet z licznymi wielokulturowymi wplywami
„Studenci z Polski, Ukrainy i Bialorusi, Armenii, Kazachstanu, Chin i Japonii zyja tutaj jak jedna wielka rodzina” – mowi Maciej Bartoszyk. ´Maciej mieszka w Lublinie i studiuje medioznawstwo z dziennikarstwem na uniwersytecie WSPA.
Uniwersytet WSPA zaprosil mnie do poprowadzenia wykladow i seminariow na temat produkcji radiowych. Gdy przybywam do Lublina, zastaje mnie zimna i sniezna pogoda. Moj hotel jest usytuowany na Podwalu, w poblizu szkoly klasztornej sasiadujacej z historycznym zamkiem. Zamek z wysoka wieza zbudowana w sredniowieczu goruje nad miastem. Atmosfera panujaca w miescie jest majestatyczna, a architektura monumentalna, przesiaknieta historia. Za moim hotelem znajduje sie Stare Miasto z wieloma historycznymi budowlami miedzy innymi domem w ktorym urodzil sie znanym skrzypek Henryk Wieniawski.
W nowej czesci Lublina, otoczona nowoczesnymi budynkami znajduje sie siedziba uniewersytetu WSPA. W glownym holu, studenci siedza razem i rozmawiaja po rosyjsku o wykladach. Marianna Kril, ktora jest wykladowca dziennikarstwa radiowego a takze prowadzi swoj polsko-ukrainski program w Radio Lublin, podchodzi do mnie w pospiechu i przedstawia sie. „Pochodze z Ukrainy, prawie jak 90% naszych studentow na dziennikarstwie i medioznawstwie” – opowiada. Pierwsze spotkanie z Polskimi i Ukrainskimi studentami przebiega wspaniale, komunikujemy sie glownie po angielsku, jednak niektorzy uczestnicy mowia takze po rosyjsku i niemiecku.

Co bylo najwazniejsze?
Ludzie i ich historie opowiedziane w autentyczny i pelen emocji sposob. Jednak wyzwaniem jest znalezienie osob, ktore potrafilyby opowiedziec o swoim zyciu w fascynujacy sposob!
